Described by New Matilda editor Chris Graham as “hands-down the best festival I’ve ever been to, period”, Broken Heel is Australia’s premiere event celebrating all things LGBTQI+ culture, with a special focus on Drag Queens (and Drag Kings).
Based in Outback NSW in Broken Hill, the festival began a decade ago as a small event at the famed Palace Hotel, a backdrop for the international smash hit movie (and Australian cult classic) The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
Today, Broken Heel is a 5 day fiesta of “disco, drag and divas in the desert”. The full program runs over five days (with three days of ticketed shows) and 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the cinematic release of Priscilla.
The event is a major boost to the far west regional economy of NSW, and if you’ve ever wondered what a festival that embraces true inclusion looks and feels like, then Broken Heel is for you. But hurry, tickets sell out pretty quick these days.
