Once More Unto The Breach Dear Friends: We’re At The Pointy End Of Our Latest Campaign

0

Almost a fortnight ago, New Matilda launched a fresh Pozible fundraising campaign, this time to raise enough money to pay contributors for their articles.

In addition to a small general contributor’s budget, we’re seeking to provide payment for regular columns to Amy McQuire, Michael Brull, Clare and Jessie Stephens, and Liam McLoughlin for the first quarter of 2016. The ironically titled ‘Opposition spokesman on Communications’ Jason Clare did just that this week, during an appearance on community station Bendigo IPTv.

Perth Authorities Hunting For Squirrels

Perth residents are being urged to keep an eye out for squirrels “about the size of a rat with a bushy tail,” after a recent sighting in the inner-city suburb of Victoria Park. The West Australian Department of Agriculture and Food – whose clutches the squirrels have been evading for years – said on Friday “they move with rapid, darting movements and are good climbers”.

Local residents in the ‘squirrel zone’ – about a 30 kilometre radius from Perth Zoo – are urged to look “in their backyards and local parks and report sightings to the department,” using a pest-spotting app.
