Lucy Hamilton was the Victorian coordinator of Racial Respect in the 1990s, established to counter the original Hanson misinformation. This organisation emerged from the Melbourne University group behind the influential 1963 “Immigration: Control or Colour Bar” White Paper which was so powerful in helping bring an end to the White Australia Policy. Having grown up with close connections to the Vietnamese refugee diaspora, she has become involved in the current fight for justice for the asylum seekers who come to Australia. Stephen Charles, as referred to in the article, is the author's father.
