Charlie Pickering’s new show ‘The Weekly’ has started grabbing a bit of attention as it attempts to one better Shaun Micallef and mimic similar American comedy/news programs in the US.
Like the indefatigably viral John Oliver, Pickering has build a monologue segment into his show which allows the host to fire away on a featured topic for the week.
And this week, he found an easy target.
With Cory Bernardi successfully setting up an inquiry into food certification which just so happens to include halal, Pickering locked on.
As you would expect, the clip features some of our old favourites like halal truther and internet warrior Kirralie Smith.
But the greatest roasting was reserved for the senator from South Australia.
“Luckily the only people who have a problem with halal certification are fringe people on the internet. Oh, and senators,” Pickering said.
You can watch his full effort here.
Not usually one to admit any praise for the ABC, Bernardi took to twitter to leave this feedback for Pickering.
Hey @corybernardi – glad you enjoyed it. Happy for you to call an enquiry into animal cruelty in all abbotoires. #TheWeekly
