NSW to consider Charter of Rights

Today’s SMH contains an article entitled Charter of rights plan to be put to cabinet, which reports that The Hon Bob Debus, NSW Attorney General, has declared his support for a Charter of Rights similar to the one that Victoria is considering.

According to the report, Debus will ‘take a proposal to cabinet to invite public consultation on the values and rights Parliament should protect’. The Human Rights Act for Australia campaign urges supporters to write to the Premier, The Hon. Morris Iemma,  urging him to support the cabinet submission when it is brought forward. The premier’s address is

Level 40 Governor Macquarie Tower,
1 Farrer Place,
SYDNEY NSW 2000

and his email is  thepremier@www.nsw.gov.au.
