Labor Senator Lisa Singh was first elected to the Tasmanian Parliament in 2006, and then to the Australian Parliament as a Tasmanian Senator in 2010. She was re-elected to the Senate in 2016 after receiving an unprecedented number of below-the-line votes. She has spoken out regularly on issues around social justice, human rights, and refugees, and is also a strong advocate for the environment. In late 2016 Senator Singh spent three months working at the United Nations as a delegate of the Australian Parliament.
