By New Matilda

September 16, 2004

NewMatilda.com is passing on this invitation to attend the the great legal debate in Sydney next Tuesday. We’re also inviting legal observers (you don’t need to be a lawyer) to attend and report back – email Natasha Cica on natasha.cica@newmatilda.com.au if you’re interested.

You are invited to attend the key legal event of the 2004 federal election campaign, a debate between Attorney-General Philip Ruddock MP and Shadow Attorney-General Nicola Roxon MP. The debate will explore the policies of the major parties as they affect the Australian legal system and legal profession.

The debate will be chaired by Professor George Williams of the University of New South Wales, with questions from a panel composed of Dominique Hogan-Doran (Past President, Australian Women Lawyers), Chris Merritt (Australian Financial Review) and Stephen Southwood QC (President, Law Council of Australia). There will be no worm.

The debate will be held from 10am to 11am next Tuesday 21 September in the Theatrette at NSW Parliament House, Macquarie St, Sydney.

Entry is free but seating is strictly limited. If you would like to attend, please book a place by contacting Amy Donaldson on 02 9282 3593 or at adonaldson@afr.com.au.

The Great Legal Debate has been organised by the Australian Financial Review and the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law at UNSW. We thank Bob Debus MP, NSW Attorney-General, for hosting the debate at this venue.

Full details of the week’s legal news are available every Friday in the Australian Financial Review‘s legal affairs section.
